Leeds United are pushing to get the signing of Feyenoord star Igor Paixao over the line.

Whilst the Leeds fanbase began to panic after Paixao appeared to be on the verge of signing for Marseille, the 49ers remained calm and now look ready to secure a blockbuster signing at Elland Road.

The left-wing position needs extra quality following the departure of Manor Solomon, who rejoined his parent club, Tottenham, after inspiring Leeds to the title on the final day of the season.

Whilst many thought Solomon could simply not be replaced, the 49ers appear to have pulled a rabbit out of the hat when it comes to Paixao.

Although the Whites already have multiple talented wingers on their books who have not been utilised correctly by Daniel Farke, like Largie Ramazani, Paixao is still a welcome addition.

Strength in depth appears to be the strategy employed at Elland Road over the summer, with a severe lack of depth costing the Whites last time they were in the top flight.

According to reports from Sky Sports (26 July), Leeds are ready to pay £28million plus add-ons for the Feyenoord winger.

It’s understood that the clubs were not able to come to an agreement over Leeds’ opening bid of £26m, plus add-ons, but negotiations are ongoing for the Brazilian.

Marseille also remain in talks with the Dutch club, and Roma continue to monitor the situation, meaning United cannot afford to be complacent if they want to land their man.

After recording a phenomenal 16 goals and 10 assists in the Eredivisie last season, the signing of the Brazilian winger must be a priority, especially given the more than reasonable price.

Although the wingers at Farke’s disposal already are some of the best players at the club, Paixao represents an upgrade on the likes of Willy Gnonto and Dan James.

Whilst securing a new striker is arguably a pressing issue, Leeds must be ruthless and pounce upon any opportunity to bring a player of Paixao’s quality to West Yorkshire.

This could be a huge moment of the summer.
