Jane Tovey, of The Guild of Friends of the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, received the prestigious Order of Mercy medal for her ‘distinguished voluntary service.’
The award ceremony was held in The Mansion House, City of London, with HRH Princess Katerina of Yugoslavia present.
The Right Honourable Lord Lingfield, president of the League of Mercy, said: “Mrs Tovey is a marvellous example of someone whose longstanding and voluntary dedication to the service and welfare of others is noteworthy and remarkable, and we were delighted to be able to make this well-deserved award to her.”
The League of Mercy was originally created in 1899 to encourage and recognise voluntary work in hospitals and the community.
It was re-established as a nationwide charity in 1999, continuing the work of its founder, the then Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII.
The charity has recognised Mrs Tovey’s dedication to the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.
