Leeds United haven’t stopped this transfer window, as the 49ers have already spent big this summer.

Daniel Farke and the 49ers have been strong in this window, and the desire to keep that going is there.

Igor Paixao’s £26m bid is to be improved after Feyenoord wanted more for the winger, as the intent is clearly there from the Leeds owners.

If the Brazilian arrives, this would have a massive increase on what has been spent already this summer, as over £80m has been utilised on signings.

With the window going well, it’s also what attracts new players to Leeds, but in this instance, a former player came in clutch.

After the plethora of new additions, Gabriel Gudmundsson has already looked impressive in a Leeds shirt.

Gudmundsson showed his stability, which will be useful in the Premier League, but also how he can be an attacking option in the absence of Junior Firpo.

The 26-year-old has been settling in and looks to work well in Farke’s system moving forward.

This was shown in the pre-season opener as Gudmundsson made overlapping runs vs Man United, which caused a threat to Ruben Amorim’s side.

His ability is clear, but the reason he actually chose to join Leeds in a £10m deal from Lille was all thanks to fellow countryman and former Leeds defender Pontus Jansson.

“Pontus Jansson has the same agent as me, so of course I’m familiar with him, and he told me just great things about Leeds,” Gudmundsson said to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“He told me I have big shoes to fill. Funny guy. Top guy. He was really satisfied with his years in Leeds.”

Gudmundsson has big task ahead to replicate Junior Firpo success at Leeds

The Swede is looking like an exciting option down that left flank, but he will have a lot to live up to if he’s to replicate Firpo’s success.

Gudmundsson showed his attacking intent, but to match Firpo’s 14-goal involvements from the Championship will be a hard feat.

He can still find his way to get involved in goals, but to emulate the 28-year-old’s efforts will be difficult.

There will obviously be comparisons between the two, but what stands out in terms of the Swede’s advantage is Gudmundsson’s ability to stay fit, which is something Firpo struggled with.

There’s plenty more to see from him, and if Gudmundsson has the same attitude as Jansson moving forward, he will make for an ideal Firpo successor.
