Police are searching for a man who once stabbed a former Premier League player in the VIP lounge of a Manchester bar. Robert Rimmer, 37, is wanted by Humberside Police for drug offences in the Hull area.

The 37-year-old, originally from the Ashton-Under-Lyne area of Manchester, has links to Liverpool, Cheshire, Hull and Blackpool. He also has links to the Middle East.

Detectives appealed for information about his whereabouts two years ago in connection with an ongoing drugs investigation. They have now renewed their appeal, with a spokesman saying: “Detectives are renewing their appeal to locate wanted man 39-year-old Robert Rimmer, can you help?

“Officers are keen to locate him as he is wanted for drug offences in our area.”

Rimmer was previously jailed in 2013 for repeatedly stabbing former Manchester United player Ronnie Wallwork in a VIP lounge in a bar in Manchester city centre, reports Hull Live.

A Judge at Manchester Crown Court called it an ‘extreme eruption of violence’ and claimed Rimmer could have killed Mr Wallwork when he attacked him with a fish knife. He was sentenced to five and a half years in prison.

Anyone who has seen Rimmer, or has any further information that may help detectives locate him, is asked to contact Humberside Police on non-emergency number 101 quoting crime reference number 23*146253. Alternatively, reports can be submitted anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111
