Three vehicles were involved in a crash

Officers closed part of the M61 after three vehicles crashed overnight near Bolton.

Police say one person suffered minor injuries following a collision on the northbound carriageway between Rivington Services and junction eight, at Chorley.

Emergency services were called out to the scene at 2.45am this morning (July 27).

National Highways says two lanes of traffic reopened by 6.50am, with one lane remaining closed until around 12pm this afternoon to clean a spillage on the road following the smash.

Witnesses are now being urged to come forward with information.

A Lancashire Police spokesperson said: “We were called at 2.45am to the northbound carriageway of the M61 between Rivington Services and junction eight.

“The emergency services attended and it was found that three vehicles had been in collision. One person suffered minor injuries.

“The carriageway was closed for a time while recovery work was done. Two lanes have since reopened.

“Anyone who witnessed the collision or has information, please contact 101 – quoting log 0190.”
