Sheffield United are renewing their push for a return to the Premier League after falling just short last season. SUFC were beaten by Sunderland in the Championship play-off final, prompting a shake-up at the top.

Manager Chris Wilder departed by mutual agreement, and Ruben Selles has stepped in as his successor. The Spaniard’s appointment reflects the club’s shift toward a data-driven recruitment strategy focused on unproven, high-potential talent.

It’s been a relatively quiet transfer window so far, but activity is starting to increase, and a new target is now on the radar. According to reporter Alan Nixon, via his Patreon, Sheffield United are leading the race to sign Go Ahead Eagles man Oliver Antman.

Antman has been linked with several clubs over the course of this summer. Fellow Championship sides Birmingham City and Blackburn Rovers were reportedly offered the chance to sign him earlier in this window.

SUFC have been held back during the summer window due to a lack of financial power. However, the Blades have raised funds to make a bid for the 23-year-old after mainly looking at loans this window and think the Finn is worth the investment.

More on Antman

Oliver Antman has quickly built a strong reputation over the past year, emerging as a key figure in the Dutch top flight during his debut season with Go Ahead Eagles.

The winger made a significant attacking impact for the club throughout the 2024/25 campaign. He had also made contributions in Denmark’s Superliga prior to his transfer, rounding off an impressive season overall.

Typically operating on the right wing, Antman has also found success on the left. He is now an established member of the Finnish national team, earning 22 caps and contributing goals at the international level.

Promising news for Sheffield United transfers

There has been much frustration from fans around the Sheffield United transfers over the course of this summer. However, this latest news around Antman is a nice change for the SUFC supporters.

Not only is Antman a quality player, but the links also give hints towards the plans for the rest of the summer. There is plenty of quality to be brought in on frees or on loans, something the club are looking to do in order to make bigger investments.

Providing SUFC do not lose any more of their stars after Vini Souza, they will be in a good spot. However, as clubs circle, that could be a difficult task.
