Catalans Dragons have started their 2026 recruitment cycle by confirming the arrival of an NRL centre.

Joel Tomkins had confirmed the club would be taking their recruitment process in a new direction with a focus on younger players, with the intent being to lower the average age of the squad.

That’s something that the arrival of 24-year-old centre Solomona Faataape will do with the Queensland Cup standout penning a two-year deal with the Perpignan club.

Faataape had played for Brisbane Tigers but signed with NRL outfit Wests where he has most recently represented the club’s side in the Queensland Cup, playing 15 games and scoring nine tries so far this season.

He has also played twice for Wests in the NRL this year, scoring once, having g previously played 17 games for Benji Marshall’s side in 2024.

Solomona Faataape signs for Catalans Dragons

Faataape will bring some much-needed tries to Catalans with the Dragons outside backs struggling to score this season.

His record of 43 touchdowns in 68 Queensland Cup games is an impressive one. Whilst he plays primarily at centre, Les Dracs have noted in their release that the 24-year-old is capable on the wing.

Speaking on his move, Faataape said: “I’m feeling very grateful for the opportunity to soon be a part of such an incredible club. Playing in the Super League has always been a dream of mine, I’m excited to move over and can’t wait to dig in and work hard with the boys. I’m not here for a holiday, I want to bring success to this great club!”

Newly appointed Head coach Joel Tomkins shared that excitement, stating: “Solomona joins us some NRL experience and a clear focus on developing his game and helping the Dragons compete at the top level. His best years are still in front of him and we are excited to see what he can do in Super League.”
