A young girl has been tragically found dead on a popular Greek beach by a shocked passer-by. The child, thought to be around two or three years old, was discovered on Eden Beach in Paleo Faliro, near Athens, in the early hours of Sunday.

It’s reported that an Egyptian man came across the girl’s body on the shore and promptly alerted emergency services. Emergency teams rushed to the scene where they found the unidentified child. She was swiftly transported to the Agia Sofia Children’s Hospital via ambulance, where she was sadly pronounced dead.

An autopsy is set to be conducted to establish the cause of her death, according to authorities. Greek newspaper Protothema reported that the little girl was dressed in a full-zip bathing suit and had no armbands on when she was discovered. The report added that there were no apparent signs of abuse on the child, reports the Mirror.

No missing child reports matching her description have been filed in the area. Investigations are currently underway to determine the girl’s identity and the circumstances surrounding her tragic death.

Just last week, a British tourist was sadly found lifeless on his sun lounger on a well-known Greek beach after reportedly falling ill. The 74 year old was found unconscious on Stalis Beach on the island of Crete by fellow resort-goers at around midday on Sunday, July 20.

Emergency crews raced to the location and launched a frantic attempt to save the man, but sadly their endeavours were in vain. It is believed that he had initially taken a dip before heading back to his sun lounger, with witnesses suggesting he experienced a “strong feeling” of illness moments before his passing.

Medical personnel from the Hellenic National Center of Emergency Care (EKAB) attended to the man on site, though Greek officials have yet to establish a cause of death. A post-mortem examination was scheduled to take place, according to cretapost.gr..

This follows a string of devastating seaside fatalities in recent months involving British holidaymakers. A 73 year old man was discovered deceased on a beach in Agia Paraskevi, Skiathos, in Greece. Meanwhile, a 68 year old tragically perished after taking a swim and collapsing on June 12.
