Manchester United have been linked with a move to sign Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz, but Jose Mourinho could scupper a move.

Ruben Amorim’s attacking changes have begun, with Bryan Mbeumo joining Manchester United last week.

Mbeumo joins Matheus Cunha at Old Trafford and will hope to cause mayhem alongside the Brazilian.

The attention may turn to other positions, with reports earlier in the summer window suggesting that United want a new midfielder on loan.

Finding a player who can improve Amorim’s midfield while also being available on loan won’t be easy, but Amorim is surely seeking new energy in his engine room.

Reports earlier in July suggested that United have been offered the chance to sign Douglas Luiz from Juventus.

Juventus are chasing Jadon Sancho and seemingly offered up Luiz in an exchange for the United winger.

A deal hasn’t advanced yet, but reports claim that United are interested in Luiz despite his poor season with Juve.

Luiz has now missed training with Juventus ahead of a possible exit, with United surely still monitoring his situation.

Tuttomercatoweb now claim that Fenerbahce are looking to sign Luiz on loan with an option to buy.

Fenerbahce sporting director Devin Ozek is set to travel to Italy for talks, while boss Jose Mourinho is prepared to try and personally convince Luiz to join.

Mourinho wants to discuss the Fenerbahce project with Luiz and tempt him into making the move to Türkiye.

Douglas Luiz makes sense for Manchester United

United will surely watch Luiz’s situation closely, and may be ready to challenge former boss Mourinho.

The Brazilian has not enjoyed his time in Turin, failing to make an impression after joining Juve from Aston Villa.

Juve may well be open to a loan with option to buy, which would certainly suit United’s reported transfer plan.

Luiz also has plenty of Premier League experience with Villa, and he would be a strong fit to play in a midfield two in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system.

United may need some more players to move on in order to strike another incoming deal, but taking Luiz on loan for the season – and frustrating Mourinho in the process – would certainly help Amorim’s options in the middle.
