EXCL: Johnstone for Trafford

Burnley want Sam Johnstone to replace James Trafford — and plan to beat Sunderland to get him.

Wolves would let the keeper, 32, go on loan or sell him for £8million.

Johnstone knows chances are limited with Jose Sa their undisputed No 1.

The Clarets signed Max Weiss, 21, last month but Johnstone can expect to be above him in the pecking order.

Trafford is on his way back to Manchester City for £27m.

Sunderland are also chasing £12m-rated keeper Dmytro Riznyk from Shakhtar Donetsk.

Wrexham hope to sign Argentinian hardman Juan Carlos Portillo in their next big-money splash.

The Welsh club enquired about the Talleres centre-half, 25, and they will sell for about £4million after rejecting interest from Brazilian sides.

Portillo is keen to come to Britain and Red Dragons boss Phil Parkinson wants to make it happen.

Emerson deal

Emerson Royal has completed his move to Flamengo from AC Milan.

The former Tottenham defender only made the move to Italy last year in a deal worth £13million.

He made 17 appearances in the Serie A but did help the club win the Italian Super Cup.

How to sign Sesko

Manchester United and Newcastle have been told what they have to do to seal the signing of Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig.

It’s not correct to speak about the names of clubs that are interested in Sesko, but maybe it is right to clarify a few things.

Let me tell you: Sesko is not competing with anyone.

It’s him vs. him every day. We have a clear plan for the future and media speculation doesn’t affect us.

His numbers at his age are comparable to some strikers with already great careers.

That confirms my words. He will move from RB Leipzig only when we recognise a special club — a special project with a special coach.

Hato standoff

Chelsea are in a stand-off in their attempts to sign Jorrel Hato from Ajax.

The defender has long been linked with Chelsea and Arsenal.

However, the Blues are currently not willing to match Ajax’s asking price of £52million and are only at £44m.

EXCL: Cooper targeted

West Ham have put Sheffield United keeper Michael Cooper on their hit list.

SunSport understands Hammers will make final checks on the 25-year-old before the transfer window shuts.

The Blades would want about £15million for Cooper, who they got from Plymouth for an initial £2m in 2024

Former West Ham boss David Moyes has already tried to land the stopper, but Sheffield United rejected the approach from Everton.
