Marcus Rashford has been shown support by Manchester United stars past and present after making his first appearance for Barcelona.

United confirmed last week that Rashford had signed for the La Liga giants on a loan deal for the season ahead. The agreement also includes the option for the transfer to be made permanent next summer.

It was on Sunday when Rashford made his first appearance for Barcelona in a friendly match against Vissel Kobe in Japan. Rashford was introduced at half time before being substituted in the 78th minute.

After the game, which Barcelona won 3-1, Rashford took to social media to post a message about his debut. The on-loan United star posted to his 19.4million followers on Instagram several photos from his cameo in Japan, accompanied with the caption: “First minutes in a Barca shirt! Vamos.”

The post has since received more than 1.7million likes, including several from United stars past and present. Joshua Zirkzee, Bruno Fernandes, Antony, Diogo Dalot, Tyrell Malacia, Harry Maguire and Rasmus Hojlund all liked the post from Rashford.

Rashford’s post also received some likes from former United players, including Juan Mata, David De Gea, Anthony Martial, Donny van de Beek, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Christian Eriksen.

There were some questions after Barca’s win over Vissel Kobe as to why Rashford was only on the pitch for 33 minutes. Manager Hansi Flick explained that the on-loan United star’s fitness was the reason for Rashford’s minutes being managed.

“He’s a week behind the others,” he said. “He hasn’t been training as much with the ball, and we want to look after him. It was a very good match, a good test for us.”
