Radek Vitek has expressed his excitement to join Bristol City after the Manchester United goalkeeper was confirmed as the Robins’ fourth summer signing on a season-long loan.

The 21-year-old hails from Czech Republic and featured for the academy of Signa Olomouc before joining United in 2020.

He has previously had loan spells at Accrington Stanley in League Two and FC Blau-Weiss Linz in the Austrian Bundesliga.

On signing for the Robins, Vítek told club media: “I’m really excited, for me the Championship is a new level.

“More games is a big positive for me and I can’t wait to get to know all the players andstaff better.”

Technical Director Brian Tinnion added: “We’re really pleased to secure the services of Radek as we strengthen the goalkeeping department for the upcoming campaign.

“He’s extremely well regarded at Manchester United and is a player we’re lookingforward to working with.”

Vitek has signed a new contract at Old Trafford until 2028 and there is a January recall option in his loan agreement.

The goalkeeper played 18 times for Stanley on loan after joining in January 2024 and, more recently, made 37 appearances last campaign for FC Blau-Weiss Linz. The Linz-based outfit recorded a club-record finish of sixth in just their second-ever top-flight season. He has also featured 22 times for the Red Devils’ Under-21s.

The 21-year-old arrives at Ashton Gate to provide extra depth in between the sticks following Max O’Leary’s ankle injury which is expected to keep the Republic of Ireland international sidelined for around three months after surgery was required.

City have already signed experienced goalkeeper Joe Lumley following his departure from Southampton while the likes of Lewis Thomas and Josey Casa-Grande have also been involved in pre-season so far.

In addition, striker Emil Riis and midfielder Adam Randell have also joined from Preston North End and Plymouth Argyle respectively.

Gerhard Struber’s side have one final friendly test on Saturday at home to Spanish second division side Real Valladolid before kicking off their 2025/26 Championship campaign away at Sheffield United on Saturday, August 9.
