Manchester United have confirmed goalkeeper Radek Vitek has signed a new three-year contract at Old Trafford and joined Bristol City on loan.

The 21-year-old, who spent last season on loan at Austrian club Blau-Weiss Linz, will spend the duration of the 2025/26 campaign at Ashton Gate, offering him the opportunity to get more experience.

Vitek, who has committed his future to United until June 2028, was training with the first-team at Carrington earlier this pre-season, but was left out of the squad for the tour of the United States amid the expectation he would leave on loan.

As well as playing for Blau-Weiss Linz last term, keeping seven clean sheets in 28 appearances, Vitek has previously spent time at Accrington Stanley, making 18 appearances for the League Two side during the second half of the 2023/24 campaign.

After finalising his switch to Ashton Gate, Vitek told the Robins’ club website: “I’m really excited, for me the Championship is a new level. More games is a big positive for me and I can’t wait to get to know all the players and staff better.”

Bristol City technical director Brian Tinnion added: “We’re really pleased to secure the services of Radek as we strengthen the goalkeeping department for the upcoming campaign.

“He’s extremely well regarded at Manchester United and is a player we’re looking forward to working with.”

The Robins, who have confirmed United will have the option to recall Vitek in January, will be targeting another strong campaign in the Championship this season after finishing in the play-off positions last term, before being beaten 6-0 on aggregate by Sheffield United in the semi-finals.

Vitek has become the eighth player to leave United on loan so far this summer.
