Manchester United still need to sign a midfielder and striker this summer transfer window.

Ruben Amorim now has Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha to fill both roles behind the centre-forward, but there is a lack of options directly in front of and behind those two new additions. There are just five first-team midfielders following the departure of Christian Eriksen, with Toby Collyer now also set to leave, albeit on loan.

There are even fewer choices up front as Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund are the only senior choices, alongside Chido Obi. Below is a round-up of the latest transfer rumours:

Kolo Muani hijack

United are reportedly making dangerous moves regarding Randal Kolo Muani despite Juventus’ discussions with Paris-Saint Germain over re-signing the France international. La Gazzetta dello Sport claims Kolo Muani is said to be prioritizing a Turin return, but a reputed determined push from the Reds has them feeling less assured about last season’s loanee coming back.

MEN Sport says: United did not rule out signing Kolo Muani on loan in January, so these links are no surprise, especially after considering signing the striker before opting to buy Hojlund in the summer of 2023. However, with a signing up front no longer seemingly imminent, Juventus pushing to do a deal may mean United miss out.

Midfield move

United are said to have made an initial £35million offer to sign Morten Hjulmand. Calciomercato claims Sporting CP want the midfielder for £43million, with his entourage believing between £26-£35million is a fair valuation.

MEN Sport says: The expectation is that United are to clear the pathway for a midfield signing by loaning out Collyer, which would leave just four first-team options in the middle. Links to Hjulmand are inevitable after being his captain at Sporting CP and seemingly wanting a move much like his former teammate Viktor Gyokeres.
