A fourth person has died following a shooting in Maguiresbridge in Co Fermanagh last week.

Police said Ian Rutledge, 43, died in hospital this evening following the shooting at a house on Drummeer Road last Wednesday morning.

A murder investigation was launched last week.

Police said they received a 999 call from someone inside the house appealing for help shortly before 8am last Wednesday.

Officers were despatched immediately from Enniskillen station around 13km away.

When they arrived at the property, they found four people inside with gunshot wounds.

Two of the victims of the shooting, a woman and a child, were pronounced dead at the scene.

A second child died later in hospital.

They were named as 45-year-old Vanessa Whyte, a vet originally from Barefield, Co Clare, and her children, 14-year-old James Rutledge and Sara Rutledge, who was 13.

Mr Rutledge had been in hospital in a serious condition following the shooting but died this evening.

The PSNI has now reiterated their appeal for anyone with information to get in touch.

“Detectives have reiterated their appeal for anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to come forward,” a PSNI spokesperson said this evening.

Last Friday, hundreds of people attended a vigil at Maguiresbridge Primary School which Sara and James had attended.

The gathering was told the community’s heart was heavy and hurting.

Prayers were offered for the emergency services who responded to the incident and had been met with a harrowing scene.

Two minutes silence was observed in memory of the family.
