Police seized a machete and two imitation handguns during a search near the city centre, it has been revealed.

Officers acted after residents living on Hagley Road, Ladywood, reported concerns about antisocial behaviour and crime.

West Midlands Police laid on patrols and searched an address last week, where they recovered weapons.

A woman was also arrested for recall to prison and enquiries into the weapons continue.

In June, the force’s Proactive Crime Team in Birmingham, Op Skybridge, arrested several people in the Ladywood and Edgbaston areas, in connection with theft and drug offences.

Neighbourhood officers will be continuing patrols over the coming weeks.

WMP said: “We’re really grateful to those who have reported their concerns, as communities across the West Midlands are our extra eyes and ears, and the information provided can be vital.

“We would urge residents to keep reporting issues, and where possible provide us with CCTV footage, so we can keep dealing with specific concerns.”
