As international pressure grows over the dire humanitarian crisis in Gaza, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has announced that Germany, France and Britain are considering sending their foreign ministers to Israel next week to discuss the issue.

“We will most likely ask the three foreign ministers of France, the United Kingdom and Germany to travel together to Israel next Thursday to present the position of… the three governments,” Merz said at a press conference in Berlin alongside Jordan’s King Abdullah II, The Times of Israel reports.

Merz also announced that two German planes are already en route to Jordan and could launch aid missions to Gaza as early as Wednesday.

“The two A400M aircraft will be refueled in Jordan and will then begin the aid mission over the weekend, in coordination with France and Germany,” Merz said, adding that “this work can only make a modest contribution to humanitarian aid, but it sends an important signal: We are here, we are in the region,” he added.

Merz also welcomed the initial steps taken by Israel to allow aid, but stressed that further steps must be taken.
