Most of the recent news coming out of the royal family has been good. King Charles’ illness seems to be under control, even if he’s not in remission. Kate Middleton is also doing better. King Charles and Prince Harry are reportedly taking the first steps towards reconciliation. And despite divorce rumors, the marriage between Prince William and Kate Middleton seems as strong as ever.

And now, Prince William might just add a new responsibility to his plate. But a good one. The Duke and Duchess of Westminster have just welcomed their first baby, a girl named Cosima Florence Grosvenor. “The Duke and Duchess of Westminster are thrilled to announce the birth of their baby daughter,” read a statement obtained by People.

“Both the Duchess and Cosima are doing well,” the statement went on to say. “The Duke and Duchess now look forward to spending this special time together as a family.”

What does this have to do with Prince William? Well, William is a close friend of Hugh, the Duke. In fact, Hugh is close enough to the royal family that he is godfather to Prince William and Kate Middleton’s eldest son, Prince George. Not just that, he’s also godfather to Prince Harry’s eldest son, Prince Archie. Considering all of this, it would not be surprising if Prince William were chosen to be the baby’s godfather.

Prince William and George were even spotted out with the Duke and Duchess earlier this year, as the foursome watched Aston Villa’s Champions League quarterfinal against Paris Saint-Germain at Villa Park in Birmingham, England. The Duke is the richest person in the UK under 40, and his ties to the royal family go way beyond Prince William and Prince Harry. In fact, he is the godson of the King, and his mother is Prince William’s godmother.

This comes after William and Kate Middleton showcased their relationship during the formal welcome to French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, First Lady Brigitte Macron. Cameras caught Prince William holding out a hand to help Kate walk down the stairs as they walked across the Royal Dais at Datchet Road at Windsor Castle. The couple continued holding hands afterwards. Other pictures showed Kate placing a supportive hand on the small of her husband’s back.

“They are happy for people to see them be touchy-feely,” Majesty magazine editor-in-chief Ingrid Seward told People in March. “They’re in a different phase of their life now. William is very protective and very proud of her for coming through this and carrying on with her life.”

Rumors that the two might be divorcing reached a crescendo after William hired the lawyers who represented his mother, Princess Diana, in her divorce from King Charles. But sources confirm this had nothing to do with his marriage.

William wanted to strike out on his own. He did not want to continue using his father’s lawyers. It’s as simple as that. He wants to be his own man,” a source told The Daily Mail. The insider, described as a “friend” of William’s, continued, “William wants to do things differently from his father and wants to be seen to do them differently.”

However, in many ways, he and his father still run in the same circles. That’s why we could see him become a godfather to the Duke and Duchess of Westminster’s new baby.
