Manchester United may be about to move a step closer to selling Alejandro Garnacho as Nottingham Forest close in on a transfer this summer.

According to The Sun, Forest have been battling hard with Napoli to sign Bologna winger Dan Ndoye this summer. The 24-year-old Swiss international bagged eight goals and four assists in Serie A last season, and it is believed the Italian champions and East Midlands club think he can add quality to their strike-force.

The tabloid newspaper understands that Forest have won the race and will soon be able to confirm the £35million deal for Ndoye. They add that Napoli would be left back at square one in their hunt for a winger to replace Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

As such, it is claimed that Napoli could reignite their interest in Garnacho to fill that void. The Argentine, 21, was a target for the Italian’s in January when they placed a bid which was ultimately rejected.

This summer, Antonio Conte’s side have not yet returned to United for Garnacho despite the winger expressing his desire to depart Old Trafford. Garnacho was one of five United players who requested his exit, while the 21-year-old has, subsequently, not travelled to the United States for the club’s pre-season tour.

Garnacho represents one of United’s last remaining sellable assets this summer having been signed from Atletico Madrid for a nominal fee. If United were to sell him, it would be considered by the Premier League’s book keepers as a ‘pure profit’ transfer which would strengthen the club’s financial position.

United are not thought to be finished in the summer transfer window -and they are hopeful of adding a centre-forward to their team as their next piece of business. Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko are currently being considered by the club’s recruitment department.
