HBO’s new Harry Potter TV series started filming on the 14th of this month, 14 years after the last Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, which released on July 15, 2011. The new series is set to follow the same footsteps as the movies with each season adapting one book. Dominic McLaughlin (Harry Potter), Arabella Stanton (Hermione Granger), and Alastair Stout (Ron Weasley) will play the iconic roles made famous by Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint. Apart from the main trio, HBO has announced many more of the other cast who will play regular and recurring roles in the series
Harry Potter Week 1
The first week saw filming in Leavesden Studios, and a few locations around London. Filming on the first day was at Leavesden Studios, where the the team has built huge sets to replicate various locations from the books. Group scenes that involved multiple extras were filmed there.

Although little is known about the cast or the scene filmed at the restaurant, the production unit took over the restaurant for almost a week to set up for the scene. Rain machines were used outside the restaurant to simulate rain and appear as if it had been raining when the scene was filmed.
It could be the scene in the book when Hagrid and Harry, after a busy day of shopping at Diagon Alley, return to London and sit down at a restaurant in Paddington Station to grab hamburgers, but we aren’t sure.
Location 3: The London Zoo
The Reptile enclosure at the London Zoo was used in the Harry Potter movies, so it was no surprise when news of filming at the zoo reached the fandom. The series filmed at the zoo on July 16 at the penguin section and the reptile sections.
Fortunately for the fandom, the news reached the paparazzi too, and we got the first unofficial pictures of Harry, the Dursleys, and Piers Polkiss (via The Sun and Daily Mail)
It is possible that a scene where the Dursleys bought ice-creams was also filmed because an ice-cream van was part of the filming and we see the Dursleys having ice cream in the leaked photos

Harry Potter Week 2
Location 5: Encampment Station
Nick Frost’s double and Dominic McLauglin were seen filming at Embankment Station on July 21. The scene is probably from the scene when Hagrid takes Harry to Diagon Alley to buy his school supplies.

Location 6?: Old Magistrate’s Court, Watford
The old Magistrate’s Court is a popular filming location in Watford where series like Adolescence have been filmed. Warner Bros. vans and crew were seen there on July 21, the same day when filming also took place at the Embankment Station. We could not spot any signs or evidence at the Magistrate’s court that could confirm that it was the filming of Harry Potter.
There are two other WB productions currently filming in London: House of the Dragon and Ghostwriter. The former is a medieval fantasy, and the latter is rumored to be science fiction; hence, the location seems more likely to be the Harry Potter series. The magistrate’s court could be the setting for the Ministry of Magic.
Location 7: JFK school, Hemel Hempstead
The series was filmed at Hemel Hempstead School on 24 July. It is rumored to be the setting for the Muggle school Harry attended when he lived with the Dursleys.

Meanwhile, casting for the series is still ongoing, and our sources say casting for Crabbe and Goyle is among those that haven’t been finalized.
The confirmed cast are as follows
To facilitate schooling for the actors who have been cast, WB is constructing a temporary school that can house up to 600 pupils. Cast members are expected to attend classes alongside their filming duties, with around 150 children expected to attend daily lessons, and space for up to quadruple at peak periods. It will operate on weekdays between 5:30 am and 8:30 pm so young actors can fit in their actual studies between night shoots, reshoots, and location filming.
Harry Potter series will film until May 2026 and is eyeing a 2027 release. Season 2 will begin filming back-to-back after Season 1 after a short break. Stay tuned to Redanian Intelligence for more news.
