Newcastle United’s owners have put the block on Alexander Isak leaving the club, GIVEMESPORT sources understand.

The Saudi-backed Magpies have been fighting a rearguard action to prevent the Sweden international from chasing a move to Liverpool.

But now, following top-level talks involving boss Eddie Howe, the hierarchy has simply told the striker that he won’t be going anywhere this summer.

Liverpool prepared to break British record again

Alexander Isak in action for Newcastle United

Isak, who has been described as ‘the best striker in the world’, recently asked to leave the club to explore his options this summer for a potential departure, after deciding against signing a new contract at St James’ Park.

However, the club’s bosses do not need the cash – and they don’t need to satisfy any Profit and Sustainability requirements either.

And now it remains for Howe to integrate the forward back into the ranks as quickly as he can ahead of a new season.

The news will come as a huge blow to Liverpool as Arne Slot seeks to re-shuffle his striking options. It had been reported that the Reds were willing to break the British transfer record for a second time this summer, having already completed a £116m deal to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.

The Reds have also signed Hugo Etitike but want to strengthen still further, particularly with Luis Diaz joining Bayern Munich in a £68m deal.

They still have Darwin Nunez to call upon should they fail to shift the Uruguayan, but it’s clear that he remains surplus in the eyes of their Dutch boss. Nunez had been linked to Napoli before they instead opted to sign Lorenzo Lucca, and he has also been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia.

Liverpool had hoped that Isak would fill the void but it appears that Newcastle’s determination to retain Isak’s services has triumphed.
