Polka dots are one of this season’s hottest fashion trends, but styling the pattern can get overwhelming quickly. If you’ve been thinking of donning the print but need a bit of inspiration of how to wear the charming design, look no further than Kate Middleton.

The late Queen Elizabeth was known for her love of brightly coloured coat dresses and matching accessories while Meghan Markle has nailed the cool, laidback yet sophisticated California style. It’s clear that the Princess of Wales is completely smitten with polka dots, however.

Purewow reported in 2022 that Kate has worn polka dots 11 times in recent years and has donned spotty numbers at public engagements since then. In 2023 the Princess of Wales made headlines for wearing a form-fitting, polka-dot Alessandra Rich dress at the Order of the Garter.

While it’s not exactly the same, shoppers can bag a very similar version from the same designer for a cool £1,800 at MyTheresa. Alessandra Rich is one of Kate’s favourite brands, with the future monarch opting for a slightly less formal navy polka dot dress from the luxury Italian brand to Wimbledon in 2022.

The exact dress would set you back a cool £1,036 if you were to pick it up pre-loved but I’ve found a very similar dress at a fraction of the cost at Roman. Those who were to pick up the high street retailer’s Black Spot Print Sweetheart Midi Dress could save over £1,000.

Typically £42, shoppers can pick up the Black Spot Print Sweetheart Midi Dress on sale for £35. That’s a saving of £20 and £1,001 cheaper than its designer counterpart.

Elsewhere, Boden is offering up to 60% off hundreds of dresses in its ongoing summer sale. The Samantha Scoop Jersey Dress has been reduced to £68.80 down from £86 while the Maddie Trim Jersey Dress also costs £68.80 instead of £86.

For an even more budget-friendly option, New Look has some great dresses. The Black Polka Dot Tie Front Mini Dress is available for £27.99 while the Black Crinkled Jersey Polka Dot Bow Back Midi Dress costs £23.99.

Back at Roman, the Black Spot Print Sweetheart Midi Dress is yet to receive any reviews from shoppers. While it’s guaranteed to be a winner, there are some thing shoppers should be aware of. It’s made from a viscose and polyamide blend, which those who prefer materials like cotton and linen might want to stay away from.

The dress also in sizes 10 to 20 but in only regular length, which maybe something to keep in mind. With this in mind, the budget-friendly dress is still a great option to recreate Kate’s iconic ensembles.
