There is still hope that Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury can come together for an epic heavyweight showdown before both men retire for good.
Right now, Fury is ostensibly retired, having walked away in January this year after his second consecutive loss to Oleksandr Usyk. The first was in May 2024 when he failed to become undisputed, and the second left him again without any belts. That said, he has recently been talking up a trilogy fight next April and has been seen back in the gym training.
Joshua’s last outing was in September and ended in disaster when he was knocked out inside five rounds by IBF Champion Daniel Dubois.
Before then, he had been on a good run of KO wins following his own two losses to Usyk. All this leaves fans keen to see the former champions do battle in what would be a legacy-defining contest, albeit a little two late in their careers.
Speaking to iFL TV, former heavyweight world champion and British boxing legend Frank Bruno backed ‘AJ’ to get the win.
“Money talks and bu****it always walks man, know what I mean, so don’t underestimate those things. When the money’s on the table, they will jump on it like flies, and it should be a good fight when they get together.
“I would edge to Joshua, you know what I mean, cause I think Tyson Fury has seen better days. Joshua is still younger, hungrier, and wants to prove himself, you know, so he’s got that fight in him and he will do a good job on him I think.”
Joshua, after recovering from elbw surgery this year, has also been linked with an unlikely fight against Jake Paul. Whether or not that comes to fruition remains to be seen, though the plan remains to fight towards the end of this year before a potential Fury fight in 2026 if ‘The Gypsy King’ wants to make it happen.
