Hull City have clinched another summer signing with former Sheffield United promotion winner John Lundstram arriving on a season-long loan deal from Trabzonspor.
Lundstram is the latest new signing and boosts Sergej Jakirovic’s squad ahead of the big season opener at Coventry City next Saturday afternoon.
City‘s latest addition will go straight into the squad to face Getafe on Saturday in the final friendly of the summer as Jakirovic looks for a sixth straight win on the back of Tuesday night’s 2-1 success over Premier League new boys Sunderland.
The 31-year-old returns to the Championship, where he’s previously played 77 times for Sheffield United. He left the Bramall Lane club for Rangers in 2021, having made 120 appearances in South Yorkshire. He went on to play 153 times for the Ibrox club.
Lundstram joined Trabzonspor last summer after leaving Glasgow and made 44 appearances in Turkey, scoring four goals, but will now return to Yorkshire four years after leaving the Blades and bolster Jakirovic’s midfield ranks.
“I know him from Turkey, he’s a very good player,” the head coach said of Lundstram. “I think that we don’t have such a profile right now in the team, and if he comes, that will be perfect for us.”
The experienced midfielder will be joined at City by his Trabzonspor teammate Enis Destan, with the 23-year-old forward arriving to bolster the Tigers’ attacking ranks.
Winger David Akintola is also expected to join the Tigers on a permanent deal once his visa application has been approved, and the club still hope to strike a deal for Oliver McBurnie in the coming days, though they are aware he has other offers.
City have so far added Reda Laalaoui, Dillon Phillips, Semi Ajayi, Akin Famewo, and Joel Ndala to their ranks so far this summer, though Laalaoui’s move has not yet been ratified by the EFL.
