Sheffield Wednesday have taken former Gunner Reece Clairmont on trial, following the 18-year-old’s release by Arsenal this summer.

Joe Crann reports for Sheffield outlet The Star that Sheffield Wednesday have taken former Arsenal winger Reece Clairmont on trial, giving the teenager a run out in their u21 fixture against Derby County over the weekend.
Clairmont reportedly started the match, with Wednesday aiming to seriously bolster their academy options this summer as their first team struggles with a transfer embargo and fee restrictions.
The club are in a particularly difficult situation at the moment, parting ways with manager Danny Rohl on Tuesday and confirming on Wednesday that they’ve been prohibited from using their North Stand on the recommendation of a Safety Advisory Group.

Former Arsenal u18 Clairmont was officially released by the club this summer, with the Gunners opting not to offer him a new deal.
The 18-year-old initially started the 2024/25 campaign with Arsenal in pre-season, but he then went out to West Ham United on a trial basis in September.
The player then returned to training with Arsenal, but he didn’t play any further matches before his departure. He had made a handful of u18 appearances for the Gunners in previous seasons.

Clairmont joined Arsenal as a 13-year-old, having supported the club as a child. He was part of Arsenal’s scholarship in 2023, with that scholarship deal running out this summer.
If Sheffield Wednesday do intend to continue giving Clairmont an opportunity to prove himself, Friday’s friendly match against Scarborough Athletic is perhaps the next opportunity.
