Scotland’s “top attractions for children ” have been named. An “immersive” science centre was the first destination mentioned by the experts.
On Wednesday, July 30, Cottages.com rounded up the best days out in Scotland for kids. A total of four activities in the country are named on the list.
Placing first on the experts’ roundup is Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh. The science centre is located on Holyrood Road, near the Scottish Parliament.
Dynamic Earth is a state-of-the-art family attraction that takes visitors through history, from the Big Bang to modern day. It is home to a full-dome 6K planetarium and a large range of interactive exhibits.
Among the unique galleries at Dynamic Earth are its Polar Extremes and Tropical Rainforest exhibits. The former immerses visitors in a rainforest and teaches them about the animals that call them home, while the latter features a real iceberg.
Cottages.com praised Dynamic Earth as “immersive” and “hands-on”. In particular, the experts singled out the attraction’s rainforest and glacier.

“From the moment you step in, you’re transported to the far reaches of the cosmos, making you feel both tiny and immensely connected to the universe. The immersive visuals and stunning projections create a sense of wonder that is hard to match.”
Another wrote: “This was a great experience for all ages. It was interactive and engaging. Some self led and some mini movie activities.
“The kids had a little activity sheet as they went along and got a small prize at the end for getting the answer which was cool! Planetarium was fab as well.”
Elsewhere Highland Wildlife Park in Kingussie was named second on the Cottages.com roundup. The 105-hectare safari park and zoo, which is home to animals such as monkeys and Scotland’s only polar bears, was praised as “ideal for animal lovers of all ages”.
