Bristol Rovers are expected to name Swiss striker Fabrizio Cavegn as their ninth signing of the summer on the eve of the 2025/26 League Two season, Bristol Live understands, following reports in Lichtenstein.

Cavegn has spent the last two years at FC Vaduz, who play in Switzerland’s second division, and enjoyed a prolific season last term.

22 years of age, the Swiss forward scored 23 goals and registered five assists in 42 appearances for Vaduz last campaign. He netted 14 goals alongside four assists in the same amount of matches the season prior.

Despite competing in the Swiss league system, Vaduz are based in Lichtenstein and are subsequently eligible to compete in the country’s national cup competition, a title they have lifted 51 times, including the last 11 seasons.

The cup win automatically sees them enter the qualifying phase of the Europa Conference League, in which they were in second round action on Thursday evening against Northern Irish side Dungannon Swifts without their striker. A 3-1 aggregate victory saw them progress in the competition.

Cavegn started the first leg last week and was a substitute in Vaduz’s league opener at home to Yverdon Sport in a 2-1 win.

Rovers’ director of football Ricky Martin confirmed on Thursday evening at the club’s fan’s forum that the Gas were very confident of sealing the addition of another striker on a permanent basis with an announcement intended to be made within 24 hours.

The Pirates sealed the return of former player and academy product Ellis Harrison earlier in the week, handing the 31-year-old a one-year deal back at the Mem.

They also have Promise Omochere and Ruel Sotiriou within their ranks while 17-year-old Ollie Dewsbury has impressed Darrell Clarke since the head coach’s return to BS7.

Signing a striker was seen as a priority amongst supporters with the frontline, prior to this week, seen as lightweight. Last season, only three teams in League One scored fewer goals than Rovers’ 44.

It is currently unclear whether Cavegn will be eligible to make his debut for the Gas tomorrow afternoon when they kick off their League Two season at home to Harrogate Town, assuming a deal is done in time. The registration deadline is believed to be midday on the day before a game.
