Arsenal have been handed a triple injury boost as the Premier League opener with Manchester United moves ever closer.
United will host Arsenal at Old Trafford in their first Premier League fixture of the new season. Ruben Amorim’s side are currently in the United States preparing for the new campaign, which has so far resulted in wins over West Ham and Bournemouth.
Elsewhere, Arsenal have been in the Far East for their pre-season tour and were recently beaten 1-0 by Tottenham Hotspur in their latest friendly fixture. The Gunners have been without Gabriel Magalhaes and Jurrien Timber in any of their fixtures on tour so far, while Riccardo Calafiori has emerged as an injury concern.
Gabriel underwent surgery on a hamstring injury last season and suffered a potential setback during their tour of Asia. Timber is also recovering from an ankle procedure which the defender underwent earlier in the summer, while Calafiori was substituted during Arsenal’s win over Newcastle earlier this week.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has explained why he is confident that all three defenders will recover in time to be available to face United in just over two weeks’ time, reports Football London.
“I don’t think so,” Arteta said when asked about any potential fitness worries after the defeat to Spurs on Thursday.
“If they evolve like they’ve been involved in the last few days, so Gabriel Magalhaes, Calafiori and Timber, the three of them will be available.”
United have been handed a triple injury boost in recent days during their tour of the United States. Lisandro Martinez has begun light training after suffering an ACL injury back in February, while Andre Onana and Joshua Zirkzee are back in training after picking up injuries during pre-season.
