Helldivers 2 on Xbox Series X|S, which will launch for the Microsoft console on the same day Gears of War: Reloaded comes to PS5, was a surprise reveal last month. Since then, a Sony job listing has advertised a role for “shaping and executing the global commercial strategy for PS Studios software titles across all digital platforms beyond PlayStation hardware, including Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox, Nintendo, and mobile”.

This caused some to wonder whether Sony would join Microsoft in going almost fully multi-platform, but the suggestions were later cooled by another industry insider, Shinobi602, who said people are “really getting carried away” with the advert. With no confirmation from Sony, fans seem to think live-service titles like Fairgames make sense on Xbox, as well as smaller projects like the rumoured 2.5D God of War game.

The job listing that sparked the original debate was seeking a new hire to optimise “title profitability” across PS5, PS4, as well as “Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox, Nintendo, and mobile”. Another responsibility would be to oversee “mid-range commercial strategy for PS Studios titles across all non-PlayStation platforms, driving long-term revenue growth and audience reach”.

According to NateTheHate, at least, internal plans at PlayStation are going ahead with multi-platform expansion onto Xbox, after originally porting first-party classics to PC and then putting the Horizon series on Nintendo Switch.
