The Seagulls have added 18-year-old midfielder Kofi Shaw to their under-21s squad.
He arrives from Bristol Rovers, where he played under Calderon in the senior side last season.
Calderon said at the time: “Physically he is not the strongest player in the world, but he is one of those players who make up for not being the strongest by being quicker mentally and then he has quality on the ball.”
Shaw made his senior debut for Rovers on the final day of the 2023-24 season having arrived from the West Brom academy.
He started last season on loan at Yeovil and made 13 appearances in League One after his return to Rovers.
Calderon played him in attack with vastly experienced former Derby and Norwich forward Chris Martin.
Shaw was linked with Aston Villa and Leeds as he caught the eye.
Albion under-21s head coach Shannon Ruth said: “We’re really pleased Kofi is joining us.
“He’s an exciting talent who already has good experience of men’s football after breaking into the Bristol Rovers team in the second half of last season.
“He has lots of potential and we’re looking forward to working with him and helping his development.”
