A man found with head injuries at Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester city centre was in a serious condition in hospital today, Saturday, police have said.

Detectives are working to establish if he was attacked.

It is understood police gave the man CPR at the scene late on Friday night (August 1) before he was taken to hospital.

Greater Manchester Police said emergency services were called to the scene at around 11.40pm on Friday.

The man was said by police to be in hospital in ‘a critical but stable condition’ on Saturday. He suffered ‘serious head injuries’, the force said in a statement.

No further details have been revealed and it’s not thought there have been any arrests.

GMP said investigations were ongoing.

In a statement, the force said: “We were called to Piccadilly Gardens at about 11.40pm last night – Friday – after a man was found with serious head injuries – we are trying to establish if he was assaulted. He remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition.”
