A hall-of-fame fighter has vowed to defeat Manny Pacquiao before setting up a rematch with Floyd Mayweather.
Pacquiao made a sensational return to the ring last month, although he ultimately fell short in his attempt at dethroning WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios after their Las Vegas bout was declared a majority decision draw on July 19.
As for Mayweather, the retired pound-for-pound great drew the curtain on his accomplished professional career back in 2017, a short while after he defeated MMA fighter Conor McGregor in their monumental crossover showdown, which ‘Money’ won via tenth round stoppage.
One fighter that is targeting a final flourish as a professional is three-weight world champion ‘Sugar’ Shane Mosley, who shared the ring with both Pacquiao and Mayweather within a 12-month period.
In an interview with Seconds Out, Mosley admitted that he is interested in facing Pacquiao next before targeting a rematch with Mayweather should he be victorious.
“The motivation is to prove people wrong. To let them know that I’m the best. Sugar Shane Mosley is still here. I’m not an old grandpa, I’m still available and ready to fight. Manny Pacquiao is 46 years old, he just fought to a draw, people thought he won or whatever, he’s proving that age is just a number. It’s your mentality. I want to prove that.
“Actually, I want to fight Manny Pacquiao next, and then the winner fights Floyd Mayweather. I want to show the world I’m still here. You can’t get rid of me. When I want to leave, I’ll leave. I’m not ready to leave. I love boxing … 100% percent.”
Mosley’s comeback suffered a slight setback last week however after he suffered a points defeat to Matt Floyd at the Indigo O2 in London on July 25 in what his first ring appearance since last September.
