Strictly Come Dancing winner Chris McCausland wowed fans with an incredible performance on The Chase: Celebrity special. The Liverpool comedian was part of Saturday’s star studded episode in aid of charity.
The comic, who was born in West Derby, was joined on the panel by Catherine Tyldesley, Levi Roots and Rick Wakeman. The celebrities were testing their wits against Anne Hegerty as they aimed to raise thousands for charity. Former Coronation Street star Catherine banked £3,000 for the team.
Entrepreneur Levi Roots was next up and he took home an additional £4,000. Scouse comedian Chris was in third position and had Bradley Walsh in stitches when he explained the secret to his comedy success.
Chris, who was born with a genetic condition called retinitis pigmentosa (RP) and lost his sight aged 22, joked: “I like to try and make them forget [that he’s blind]. Make them forget and then I stage dive.”
Chris went on to earn £6,000 in an impressive cash-builder. However, he was mortified he managed to get a question incorrect on his wife’s home city of Rio de Janeiro.
The 48-year-old more than made up for his error when he opted for the big offer of £83,000. He put in an incredible performance to seal his position in the Final Chase with the huge amount.
The Governess had a mountain to climb when she got a question wrong on another famous Scouser. Host Bradley Walsh asked: “Wayne Rooney became manager of which football team in 2021?”
The options were Derby County, Notts County or Stockport County. Chris immediately opted for the correct answer of Derby. However, the studio crowd were stunned when Anne went for the wrong answer of Stockport County.
The 2024 Glitterball winner was wowed he managed to progress to the Final Chase with the huge amount and branded the moment “unbelievable”.
Explaining her incorrect answer, Anne said: “On the Wayne Rooney question, all I could think was maybe he would want to stay in the North West.”
Rick added to the haul with £2,000 which meant the team were hoping to make a combined total of £92,000 for their chosen charities.
The team answered 18 questions correctly in the Final Chase. A nail-biting Chase went all the way to the dying seconds as Anne managed to catch the team with 4 seconds remaining.
Chris was gutted as the team had the chance to push Anne back a final time before he opted to answer Jupiter rather than the correct answer of Mars.
The team did not leave empty handed as it was confirmed Chris would have £1,000 for his chosen charity, The Whitechapel Centre.
