Legendary promoter Bob Arum believes that one unbeaten star of the sport would have defeated Floyd Mayweather in his prime.
Whilst it remains a topic of discussion within the boxing community, many fans and analysts consider Mayweather to be one of, if not the greatest fighter to have ever laced up the gloves.
The Michigan native remained unbeaten throughout the course of his 21-year professional career, winning multiple world titles in no less than five weight classes along the way.
He boasts victories over the likes of Canelo Alvarez, Miguel Cotto, Oscar De La Hoya and Manny Pacquiao, defeating the latter in the ‘Fight Of The Century’ back in 2015.
However, that famous 50-0 record may have been a case of right place at the right time, as, speaking to Sean Zittel, Top Rank’s Arum said Terence Crawford would have beaten ‘Money’ Mayweather.
“Crawford. Because Crawford is a unique kind of fighter that other fights haven’t seen. The ability he has to switch, fighters aren’t used to that. They don’t train for that. I just think he is a very, very unique talent.
“[Our relationship] has nothing to do with his ability as a fighter … As a fighter, he’s a unique, superior guy.”
‘Bud’ Crawford is widely regarded as being one of the best fighters on the planet right now – even by Mayweather himself. The 37-year-old from Omaha is unbeaten in 41 professional fights, winning world titles at four weight classes including the undisputed championship at super lightweight and welterweight.
He is just over one month away from what is set to be the toughest test of his career, as he prepares to challenge Mexican great and former Mayweather foe Canelo Alvarez for the undisputed super-middleweight championship in Las Vegas on September 13, streamed live on Netflix.
