Arthur Fils and Ben Shelton continued their explosive doubles partnership on Saturday at the National Bank Open Presented by Rogers, where they booked their spot in the quarter-finals.
The French-American duo, competing in its third ATP Tour event together, defeated eighth seeds Hugo Nys and Edouard Roger-Vasselin 6-4, 7-5 to advance amid a vibrant atmosphere in Toronto. Fils and Shelton saved the only break point they faced, according to Infosys ATP Stats, to improve to 3-2 as a team.
They will next face fourth seeds and reigning Nitto ATP Finals champions Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz, who beat singles stars Alex Michelsen and Frances Tiafoe 6-4, 6-3. Shelton, still alive in the singles event, faces Flavio Cobolli on Sunday for a spot in the quarter-finals.
Wimbledon champions Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool extended their winning streak to 16 matches by overcoming John Peers and Jan Zielinski 6-2, 6-7(3), 10-8. The British stars, who are No. 1 in the PIF ATP Live Doubles Teams Rankings, will play Guido Andreozzi and Sander Arends in the last eight. Andreozzi and Arends defeated Canadian wild cards Liam Draxl and Cleeve Harper 7-5, 7-6(3).
