Leeds United could potentially be set for a crucial month this transfer window ahead of their return to the Premier League.

The Whites drew 1-1 against Villarreal at Elland Road in their penultimate pre-season match as they prepare themselves for the opening game of the 2025/26 campaign against Everton at home on 18 August.

Daniel Farke has admitted Patrick Bamford isn’t in his plans for next season, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him leave the West Yorkshire outfit in the coming weeks.

The Peacocks may sell at least two players who played a role in the first team last season after the German manager’s recent admission.

Mateo Joseph has told Farke he wants to leave Leeds, with the likes of Real Betis and Girona monitoring his situation.

The 21-year-old striker has shown a lot of promise at Elland Road, but his lack of regular game time last season may have influenced his recent decision.

With the German manager also making it clear that Bamford and the Spain Under-21 international aren’t in his plans, attacking reinforcements will evidently be needed.

Speaking to the media as relayed by Beren Cross on X (2 August), Farke said: “Neither of them (Bamford and Joseph) are in my plans right now.

“I cannot predict a move before the window closes. Many strikers do not help you because you only play with one. It’s clear, in all offensive roles, we need reinforcements.”

Farke should demand new striker at Leeds

Roma centre-forward Artem Dovbyk is one of the names being linked with a move to Leeds, but it remains to be seen whether they will be able to sign him.

It has arguably become essential for the Whites to bolster their attack this summer and give Joel Piroe more support up front.

Farke relied on the 25-year-old to be his first-choice number nine in the previous campaign, and the Dutchman won the Championship Golden Boot.

The ex-Swansea star can’t be expected to produce similar numbers for Leeds in the Premier League, though, and 49ers Enterprises should make the addition of a new number nine their priority.

If the Whites sell the two centre-forwards, Piroe will definitely have to shoulder the burden of scoring goals next season.

The West Yorkshire outfit can’t leave themselves short on options up front if they hope to have the best chance of surviving immediate relegation, but only time will tell how the situation in LS11 will unfold.
