Manchester United didn’t crack under the pressure and secured a chaotic and dramatic 5-4 win over Lyon.

Catch your breath. That really happened. Manchester United kept their hopes of Champions League qualification alive with a sensational win at Old Trafford.

There is huge pressure on Ruben Amorim to win the Europa League and United’s head coach gave it everything on Thursday night to help the Red Devils to victory.

Harry Maguire scored an incredible extra-time winner to snatch the victory after an incredible turnaround from being 4-2 down just minutes earlier.

He will deservedly steal the headlines for his incredible winner, but Leny Yoro put in a sensational display alongside him in defence.

Ahead of the Lyon clash, Ruben Amorim praised Yoro’s improvement, suggesting it was one of the biggest positives from the season.

It has not taken long for the 19-year-old defender to become a key player in this squad after his £52m summer move.

Earlier this month, Yoro revealed Amorim’s unique instructions given to him in training, with the Portuguese coach wanting to see an improvement in possession.

“If I can bring the ball forward for the strikers, for the midfielders, it is good for us, so I try to do it. Yes, the coach has asked me to do it, I am ready to do it, and I can do it,” Leny Yoro said.

Yoro certainly can. Against Lyon, he burst forward whenever possible, progressing the ball from defence into the final third on a few occasions.

Yoro was bizarrely criticised by Thierry Henry after United’s defeat to Newcastle, but the young defender silenced his critics on Thursday evening.

Not only was Yoro flawless in possession, but he also showed great versatility when he swapped from the left of the defence to the right when Luke Shaw replaced Noussair Mazraoui at half time.

Yoro’s match stats from the win over Lyon prove that he is quickly becoming a well-rounded star under Amorim.

Yoro played all 120 minutes and was able to maintain an incredible passing accuracy of 93%. He also only lost possession six times.

Ineos have signed a gem in Yoro, and Amorim is getting the best out of him.
