A viral social media video captured the moment a man tried to kick down a window on the London Underground tube in an attempt to get off.

The man, who is currently unnamed, claimed he was “stuck” on board and kicked out a window to make his way out. He took action into his own hands, and kicked the glass three times before it eventually shattered onto the platform at Euston station. He then climbs through the window before swearing and strolling away.

The incident unfolded in front of a Transport for London (TfL) worker, who could be seen earlier in the video trying to defuse the situation by speaking to a passenger on the train through the window.

A TikTok user shared the clip online, and alleged the underground passengers were “stuck” and had “no air conditioning” while the dramatic incident unfolded.

Users in the comment section were divided, with some claiming the passenger in the video was right to try and escape, due to the alleged difficult conditions on the tube. However some deemed the move as inappropriate.

One TikTok user wrote: “If you’ve ever been stuck in a tube when there is no air and people are coughing, sneezing and sweating, and panicking you have a right to comment, if you haven’t – sssshhh.”

Another added: “If the doors were not opening and the train was malfunctioning. It could be classed as false imprisonment. That being the case, the individual in fear of his physical and mental health was perfectly in his right to take reasonable action.

“He had a right to do what he did , especially after attempting to communicate his concerns to the tfl employee.”

A third noted: “He showed restraint only smashing one window.”

However, others were horrified by his actions. One particularly shocked viewer penned: “There are emergency door opening handles. Just need to be able to read.”

A second added: “Surprising, what you are now allowed to get away with…” A third wrote: “Why’d he [have] to do that, come on.”

Others said the video was “not good,” while someone else labelled the behaviour as “inconsiderate”.

British Transport Police said it is aware of the video and is investigating.

A force spokesperson said: “We request anyone with information to contact us by texting 61016 and referencing 805-310-725.”
