Leeds United may have just seen the door open for them to sign Gonzalo Garcia this summer.

The young striker featured heavily for Real Madrid in the recent Club World Cup, but he could now be in line to depart the Spanish giants ahead of the upcoming campaign.

Leeds have already shown an interest in Garcia earlier in the transfer window, and they had been understood to be prepared to pay a fee of around £17million for the frontman.

Daniel Farke’s side could live or die by their ability to bolster their attack ranks for next term, and as such, it is crucial that they secure the right man for the job.

Leeds’ pursuit of Garcia had threatened to become another transfer chase with their fellow newly-promoted side Sunderland, but they now appear to have been handed the perfect opportunity to bring him to Elland Road.

The 21-year-old’s emergence within the first team squad at the Club World Cup has further served to back up his exceptional goal record for Los Merengues’ reserve side.

However, the superclub have now decided that Garcia will be allowed to head out on loan this season, according to Fichajes (3 August).

The Whites are understood to have already explored the option of bringing him in on loan, as have Valencia, who are also keen to sign a new striker.

Several other Premier League and Spanish sides are also thought to be keen on the frontman.

Farke and Co. have been unable to add another man to support Joel Piroe to lead the line so far this summer, but now the door has been firmly opened for them to swoop in and secure Garcia’s services.

Leeds must be wary of Garcia recall

Leeds look prepared to do battle with several other clubs to try and sign Artem Dovbyk, but the update on Garcia may have come at the perfect time in case they miss out on the Roma man.

It could be a fairly uncomplicated deal to bring the Spaniard to West Yorkshire, but the Whites must be wary of the terms that they may potentially have to agree to.

Xabi Alonso’s side are understood to be keen to monitor Endrick’s form in the early stages of the season, and they could potentially look to recall Garcia in January, if the Brazilian continues to struggle to find his feet in the capital.

The last thing that Leeds will want is to bring in a player who enjoys success in the first half of the season, only to then have him taken away from them at a crucial stage of the campaign.

With that in mind, it would be prudent for Farke and the hierarchy to continue to explore other options, to ensure they have a viable backup option if that scenario did ultimately play out.
