Kate Middleton‘s fashionable younger sister Pippa Middleton is the proud mother of three young kids: Arthur, Grace, and Rose. The sister-in-law of the future King of England leads a relatively quiet life with her husband, James Matthews, whom she married in 2017. So quiet, in fact, that no photos or videos of their children have ever been shared with the public.

Despite her penchant for privacy, however, Middleton remains a favorite among royals fans. In 2011, she made a head-turning appearance at the nuptials of Prince William and her sister, Kate Middleton; six years later, she had a fairytale wedding of her own. Following the star-studded event at St. Mark’s Church in Englefield, however, she turned her attention to motherhood. The couple welcomed only son Arthur in 2018 and daughters Grace and Rose in 2021 and 2022, respectively.
Sources told People that the duo have a “deep desire” to “disappear from the spotlight in the longer term.” In this endeavor, Matthews and Middleton have been largely successful, despite their connections to the British royal family.

When your kids’s cousins are Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, however, it’s difficult to avoid the spotlight altogether. Middleton and Matthews still step out on occasion (case in point: Wimbledon) though they never do so with their children in tow. Ahead, everything that the private couple have shared about Arthur, Grace, and Rose.

Middleton’s eldest son was born on October 15, 2018 in the Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s Hospital, the very same place that Pippa’s sister Kate gave birth to her three children. His middle name Michael pays homage to both Pippa’s father and her husband’s brother, who died at the age of 22 while climbing Mount Everest. Middleton also honored her late brother-in-law by climbing Matterhorn, another famous mountain, back in 2016.
“It was humbling to have been able to climb one of the world’s most beautiful mountains and raise money for a charity created in memory of an extraordinary young man who lost his life on another peak,” she said at the time, per People.
What’s more, Arthur’s arrival gave the Prince and Princess of Wales new titles: aunt and uncle. The royal duo released a statement at the time saying they were “thrilled” for the newly minted parents.

Middleton wasted no time before introducing her son to numerous hobbies. In an essay penned for Waitrose Kitchen magazine, she said that she had put Arthur in swimming lessons as a four-month-old. “He’s now six months old, and swimming is one of our favorite activities,” she wrote, per People. “The exercise helps guarantee sound daytime sleeps, and the movement has improved his digestion.”
In toddlerhood, Arthur developed a love for the great outdoors. “Being such an active family has rubbed off on my son—he loves nothing more than running wild in the woods, parks and fields with our two dogs,” Middleton wrote in an essay for HOKA.

Grace Elizabeth Jane arrived on March 15, 2021. Like her brother, she was also born at St. Mary’s Hospital in London. Prince William and Kate Middleton were “absolutely overjoyed by the happy news,” according to a source who spoke to People. “She’s perfect, everyone is overjoyed at such a happy arrival,” the insider added.
Grace’s two middle names pay homage to her grandmothers. Matthews’s mother’s name is Jane; Pippa’s mother’s middle name is Elizabeth. Grace also shares the middle name Elizabeth with her aunt Kate Middleton and her cousin Princess Charlotte.
Middleton and Matthews have disclosed little to no information about their second child. In fact, it was actually Middleton’s mother Carole who broke the news that the couple were expecting. She graced the cover of Good Housekeeping U.K. in December 2020 and dropped this hint: “I hope to see more of my family than I could last year, including, of course, my new grandchild.”

Matthews and Middleton’s third child was born in June 2022. Neither parent has commented publicly on the baby’s arrival.
People later revealed that the couple had named their third baby Rose. The publication noted the connection to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s daughter Lilibet, a.k.a. Lili, as both names are inspired by flowers. To top it all off, roses are the birth flower for the month of June.
