Welp, it looks like Sydney Sweeney has been a registered Republican in the state of Florida since June 14, 2024, according to publicly available voting records reviewed by the Cut.

The news comes after the actress recently sparked a week’s worth of discourse for her American Eagle denim campaign, which focused on the blonde haired, blue-eyed actress’s “good jeans/genes.” Critics have called the ad “a dog whistle” that promotes “eugenics” and have described it as “fascist propaganda,” while conservatives have celebrated the ad as another sign that “wokeness is dead.” Even J.D. Vance and the White House communications director Steven Cheung have weighed in to defend Sweeney amid the controversy.

This isn’t the first time Sweeney’s alleged political affiliations have made headlines. Back in 2022, there was speculation about her family’s conservatism after a slew of red hats were spotted at a “surprise hoedown” for her mom’s 60th birthday party. Her brother, Trent Sweeney, clarified that the red caps read “Make Sixty Great Again” and not “Make America Great Again,” while the actress tweeted a response and accused the critics of making the “innocent” celebration “an absurd political statement.” She also asked people to “please stop making assumptions,” but did not outright deny the accusations.

The Cut has reached out to Sweeney’s reps for comment and will update this post if we hear back.
