Hull City’s move to sign Nigerian winger David Akintola has moved a step closer after the Home Office granted him a visa over the weekend.

Akintola is expected to sign a two-year deal at the MKM Stadium with the option of a third. He will become the eighth signing of a busy summer so far, despite the club working under strict transfer restrictions.

A three-window fee restriction was slapped on the Tigers at the beginning of July, though the club will hope that is reduced when their appeal is heard on Wednesday afternoon.

The 29-year-old has been a free agent since leaving Turkish side Rizespor at the end of last season, and though he’s had other offers, a move to City appealed, joining John Lundstram and Enis Destan in arriving from Turkey in the past few days.

City’s latest acquisition has notched up 273 appearances throughout his career, with the majority of those coming in the Super Lig in recent seasons.

He’s clocked up 147 of those in Turkey, including 32 last season, with three goals and six assists for Rizespor who finished ninth, five points off the European places.

A versatile operator, Akintola is naturally a right winger but can operate on the left and his arrival will boost Sergej Jakirovic’s options on each flank.

City have already signed Joel Ndala from Manchester City on loan for the season while Liam Millar and Mohamed Belloumi are edging closer to a return. Abu Kamara remains at the club and will again be the Tigers’ frontline winger when they kick off their season at Coventry City on Saturday.

Elsewhere, talks with Oliver McBurnie over a possible move to the MKM Stadium remain ongoing and City hope they can strike a deal for the 29-year-old former Sheffield United striker. Going the other way, Steven Alzate’s move to MLS side Atlanta United has been completed.
