JT Mollner, director of last year’s Strange Darling and writer of this year’s Stephen King adaptation The Long Walk, is shooting his shot over on Twitter. And it’s one hell of a shot.
Mollner tweets, “I’ve written something for Meryl Streep.”
And yes, it’s a horror movie…
“It’s a nasty, passionate horror role like nothing she’s ever played,” Mollner continues. “She’s our greatest living actor, so I know it’s a long shot, but damn would it be cool if she said yes.”
A three-time Oscar winner, Meryl Streep is known as one of the all-time greatest actors, but she hasn’t been seen anywhere near the horror genre since Robert Zemeckis’ comedy-horror Death Becomes Her back in 1992. Streep did work with Wes Craven back in 1999 on Music of the Heart, the rare film in Craven’s filmography that was far outside the horror genre.
Streep did play the Witch in the 2014 fantasy film Into the Woods, but it sounds like Mollner has something much more horrific in mind for Streep with this untitled project.
Check out Mollner’s tweet below and keep your fingers crossed for him. If anyone can take home an Academy Award for the horror genre, it’s most definitely Meryl Streep!
