Salford Red Devils have confirmed that a second of their senior players has left the club in a matter of just hours.
The Red Devils, who are reaching the boiling point of a saga that has rumbled on all season, saw a number of senior players not feature against Hull KR on Thursday night.
Paul Rowley put it down to illness or injury, either mental or physical, with the understanding being that players have finally reached their breaking point.
Chris Hankinson was one of those players who didn’t feature and the Red Devils confirmed earlier today that he had signed with Leeds Rhinos for the remainder of the season, and now Salford have announced the exit of Chris Hill.
Hill was among that quartet of players who didn’t feature and it’s now been confirmed that he has played his last game for Salford Red Devils with the veteran prop linking up with Bradford Bulls.
Chris Hill leaves Salford Red Devils
A statement from Salford announced: “We can confirm Chris Hill has joined Bradford Bulls with immediate effect.
“The prop forward joined Salford in late October and has made 13 appearances across all competitions, becoming a vocal member in the dressing room.”
Hill himself, added: “I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the players, coaches, and staff at Salford for everything they’ve done for me during my time at the club.
“A special mention goes to the supporters, whose backing during such a tough time never wavered. You were a real source of inspiration for all the lads who took the field.”
The transfer deadline for Super League clubs is August 28th and it’s earlier for both League One and Championship meaning that more players could be picked off in the coming days and weeks.
Announcing their new player, Bradford Bulls said: “Bradford Bulls are delighted to announce we have seen off stiff competition to secure the services of England international forward Chris Hill from Salford Red Devils on a deal until the end of the season.”
Hill spoke of the Bulls’ ambition and referenced this year’s Challenge Cup meeting as insight into why he joined the club.
He said: “From the cup game earlier on this season, it was clear how much quality there is in the team and from the outside looking in it is a club very much on the up.
“Everyone knows how good the Bradford fans are and to see so many pack that end out on a Friday night and making a lot of noise really made an impression and I am looking forward to running out in front of them for the rest of this year.”
We can confirm Chris Hill has joined @OfficialBullsRL.
Thank you, Hilly, for all your efforts in a Red shirt! 👏
