Police have issued an update after a bus driver was arrested on suspicion of being unfit to drive through drugs.

An eyewitness told the Manchester Evening News the driver’s eyes appeared ‘glazed’ following a low-speed crash in Manchester city centre on Saturday afternoon (August 2).

The incident involved a Bee Network bus bound for Bolton. As the bus moved from Piccadilly Gardens to Portland Street, it reportedly clipped a taxi that was waiting to turn.

The witness claimed the bus had been full, with standing room only, when the incident took place – at a time traffic was caught up behind closures due to demonstrations taking place on Saturday.

They claimed that the driver’s eyes appeared to be ‘glazed’ and that they ‘got no response’ while trying to speak to him, adding that he heading into Chinatown and back to Piccadilly Gardens after clipping the taxi.

“This could have been really really bad,” the eyewitness said. “The bus couldn’t have been any more full. It could have been horrendous if we had hit a building or anything like that.”

A TfGM spokesperson said on Sunday: “Just after 4:30pm yesterday, we were made aware of an incident at Parker Street bus station.
