Leeds-based Alexander Care Home has begun celebrations of its 30-year anniversary by holding a summer party for residents, their families and the local community in Morley, Leeds.
Alex Morris, Managing Director of the family-run residential care home said the party, which took place at the home on 30th July, is the start of a programme of lively events and direction that aim to bring the local community into the life of the care home on a more regular basis.
“We’ve got a fantastic and supportive community here in Morley,” said Alex, “and of course many of our residents have family locally, too, so we want to do more to bring the community and the home together. The party to celebrate 30-years being part of it has been a great way to kick that off.”
Alexander Care Home was founded by Alex’s parents, Peter and Margaret Morris, who named the home after their son. The home quickly became a much-loved part of the local community and has since grown, now providing comprehensive care for 49 elderly people in a homely and supportive environment.
“Kindness is central to everything we do,” says Alex, “and we want all our residents to feel that being here is as comfortable as being at home, with the added benefit of fantastic facilities and round-the-clock care from well-qualified and dedicated staff. We’re on a mission to continue making Alexander Care Home the best it can possibly be.”
Alex Morris took over the running of the independent care home when Peter and Margaret retired in 2020. An extension to the main building had been completed just prior to this, and the home has since been further modernised, with the most recent development being a significant investment in an updated heating system. Further plans are in place for more investment over the next few years.
Dee Cromack, whose husband is a resident at the home, says she’s delighted about the home’s extensive, ongoing modernisation. “It means the premises are of a really high standard and very comfortable to be in,” says Dee. “Along with the lovely family atmosphere and the exceptional care, I couldn’t be more grateful, really. It’s real peace of mind for me knowing the most important person in my life is so well-cared for by such a lovely, dedicated team.”
The modernisation and community outreach being advanced by Alexander Care Home is well-timed alongside the 30-year anniversary; and Alex says it is a way of looking forward to the future of the home. “We’ve got a great history in Morley and we love being part of this lovely community,” says Alex. “The modernisation and development plans are part of our future; and a commitment to being an even greater part of the community over the next 30 years.”
The party to celebrate 30 years of Alexander Care Home included games, entertainment including Frank Sinatra tribute act Phil Fryer, and catering with Alex himself at the helm of the barbecue.
Wendy Evered, who is the General Manager at ACH, has worked there for 26 years and says she was thrilled to see the residents, their families and local people making such happy memories together.
“Today has just summed up the entire reason I do this job in the first place,” says Wendy. “I want the latter years of people’s lives to be as contented and family-oriented as possible. Coming to work here every day is like being surrounded by family. And every day, we aim for residents to feel that, by being here, they are always surrounded by family too.”
