Blackpool Pleasure Beach has made a big change to its entry rules and it’s left visitors divided.

Theme park bosses have decided to let dogs through the gates for the first time, allowing visitors to bring their furry friends along with them on Sundays throughout August.

The Lancashire attraction says it wants to help people ditch the guilt of leaving their pets at home so has decided to welcome them on the dedicated dog-friendly days, which, if successful, will be extended throughout the rest of the year.

‘Dog’s Day Out’ allows guests to add a special Dog Entry Pass to their booking, giving their beloved pooches access to the park every Sunday.

Water stations and unlimited treats will be available, as well as plenty of spots where people can relax with their four-legged friends.

Pleasure Beach says the move is designed to make days out more accessible for dog owners who might otherwise feel put off visiting, due to the guilt of leaving their pets at home for long periods.

Amanda Thompson OBE, CEO of Pleasure Beach Resort, said: “We know that so many of our guests see their dogs as part of the family, and leaving them behind for the day can be a real worry. Dog-friendly Sundays mean guests no longer have to choose between a great day out and doing what’s best for their pet.

“We’ve always been a family park – family owned, for families – and with this latest step we can truly say we’re a destination for all.”

While dogs won’t be able to ride rollercoasters, they will be able to enjoy the sights, sounds and atmosphere of the park, and members of the Pleasure Beach team will be on hand to make sure both guests and their dogs have a comfortable and enjoyable experience.

But it seems visitors are very much divided on the issue, with some welcoming the move and others saying ‘it’s no place for dogs’.

Responding to the announcement on the Pleasure Beach’s Facebook page, one said: “Crap and pish on the floor, dog poo bags getting hot and sweaty in the bins smelling fresh, oh yes what a joy. Barking yapping dogs fighting where do I sign up.”

Another said: “Oh hell no, all that noise from the rollercoasters and people screaming? I’m all for more dog friendly places, but this is such a bad idea.”

However, others said they ‘love the idea’, adding: “Our dog is almost 4yrs old and we take her everywhere including amusement parks and funfairs, you train your dog right and pick up after them then there’s no issues !!!”

Another said: “It’s a really good idea! It’s not fair on your dog to leave them at home all day whilst you go out so this means more families can go.

“Also, for the people saying what happens when dogs attack people and there’s wee and poo everywhere – I really don’t think dog owners with aggressive or reactive dogs will choose to take their dog to Pleasure Beach. If their dog was to behave badly they’d be on CCTV everywhere and surely reprimanded! It would also be a super stressful day for them.”

Dog’s Day Out launches on Sunday August 10, and will run throughout August.
