Police have arrested a suspect connected to a serious assault at an assisted living facility in New London last month.

New London police officers and EMS responded to an apartment at 179 Colman St. around 10:15 p.m. on July 7 to investigate a report that a man was unconscious.

They said the man, who was not responsive, had sustained facial trauma and he was he taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital to be treated for serious injuries.

Police said the attack did not appear to be a random act.

On Monday, police arrested 28-year-old Matthew Ellis and charged him with first-degree assault.

Ellis is a resident of the assisted living facility, police said.
