With just seven games left of the Super League season, we’ve ranked the fixture run-ins for every club in the competition.

By averaging out the position of every opponent a team faces, you get an approximate ranking of the fixture difficulty with the lower the number, the harder the fixture rates.

For example, Hull KR would rank as one given their first-place position whilst Salford Red Devils would count for twelve. If a team were to have just two games left against those sides then their average fixture ranking would be 6.5.

Factors such as form and whether games are home or away aren’t considered but the data does show which teams have favourable fixture runs, something that is vital at this time of the season as clubs vie for position in the play-offs.

Two of the teams in the top six have some of the easier fixture runs, giving them a major advantage, whereas others face incredibly tough runs.

Which Super League club has the toughest fixture run?

The number associated to each team represents the average Super League position of every club a team faces in their final seven games of the season. The lower the number then the tougher the fixture run with all positions based on the Super League table ahead of Round 21.

Obviously the average ranking does not take into account whether fixtures are played at home or away but some teams with similar-ranked opponents will have far easier runs given a larger number of home games.

Fixture run-ins are ranked from the easiest, in respect of the average position of opponents, to the hardest.

12: Leigh Leopards – 8.142

Fixtures: Leeds Rhinos (H), Hull FC (a), Salford Red Devils (H), Castleford Tigers (H), Warrington Wolves (a), St Helens (H), Huddersfield Giants (H)

Leigh have the benefit of facing a number of lowly-ranked opponents, including all of the bottom three, as well as having five of their final seven games at home. Talks of a second-place finish are certainly not out of the question.

11: Catalans Dragons – 7.857

Fixtures: Huddersfield Giants (a), Warrington Wolves (a), Castleford Tigers (H), Wigan Warriors (H), Salford Red Devils (a), Leeds Rhinos (a), Hull FC (a)

Fixtures against all of the bottom three bring Catalans’ opponents ranking down but they do only have to play three of the current top six, however, the tough aspect is that all but two games are on the road.

10: Wakefield Trinity – 7.428

Fixtures: St Helens (H), Salford Red Devils (a), Wigan Warriors (a), Huddersfield Giants (H), Castleford Tigers (a), Hull KR (H), Salford Red Devils (a)

One of the key reasons why so many believe that Wakefield have a very strong chance of finishing inside the top six is the fact they play all of the bottom three, including Salford twice. There’s plenty of away games and some very tough tests including the top two, as well as Friday’s crunch game versus St Helens.

9: Salford Red Devils – 7.142

Fixtures: Hull FC (a), Wakefield Trinity (H), Leigh Leopards (a), Warrington Wolves (a), Catlans Dragons (H), Huddersfield Giants (a), Wakefield Trinity (H)

Everything at Salford this season has been dire but they can maybe take some solace in their easy-ish fixture run, however, unfortunately for them just three games remain at home with two against Wakefield.

8: Huddersfield Giants – 6.714

Fixtures: Catalans Dragons (H), St Helens (a), Warrington Wolves (H), Wakefield Trinity (a), Leeds Rhinos (H), Salford Red Devils (H), Leigh Leopards (a)

The Giants will be aiming to move ahead of Castleford Tigers and perhaps even Catalans and they have an opportunity to knock off the Dragons this week.

7: Warrington Wolves – 6.285

Fixtures: Wigan Warriors (H), Catalans Dragons (H), Huddersfield Giants (a), Salford Red Devils (H), Leigh Leopards (H), Hull FC (a), Hull KR (a)

Warrington have to make up four points and plenty of points difference but despite this fixture run ranking on the easy side, it still looks an incredibly tough task.

T6: Wigan Warriors – 6.142

Fixtures: Warrington Wolves (a), Hull KR (H), Wakefield Trinity (H), Catalans Dragons (a), St Helens (a), Castleford Tigers (H), Leeds Rhinos (H)

Wigan have their crunch game against Hull KR in a fortnight but they also face old rivals St Helens and play-off challengers Leeds Rhinos in a tricky final seven games.

T6: Leeds Rhinos – 6.142

Fixtures: Leigh Leopards (a), Castleford Tigers (a), Hull KR (H), Hull FC (a), Huddersfield Giants (a), Catalans Dragons (H), Wigan Warriors (a)

Thursday’s game against Leigh could define the Rhinos season. A tough run is made harder by the fact that just two games are at home.

T4: Hull FC – 6

Fixtures: Salford Red Devils (H), Leigh Leopards (H), St Helens (a), Leeds Rhinos (H), Hull KR (a), Warrington Wolves (H), Catalans Dragons (H)

Normally teams would welcome plenty of home games but the Black and Whites’ form at the MKM Stadium has been torrid so five of their final seven there could be problematic.

T4: Hull KR – 6

Fixtures: Castleford Tigers (H), Wigan Warriors (a), Leeds Rhinos (a), St Helens (H), Hull FC (H), Wakefield Trinity (a), Warrington Wolves (H)

One of the tougher run-ins for the Super League leaders on paper as it features back-to-back away games against Wigan and Leeds, two of the teams who have beaten them this year. They also face tough tests against rivals Hull FC and Wakefield Trinity.

2: St Helens – 5.714

Fixtures: Wakefield Trinity (a), Huddersfield Giants (H), Hull FC (H), Hull KR (a), Wigan Warriors (H), Leigh Leopards (a), Castleford Tigers (a)

The play-off side with the most difficult run-in is by far St Helens and that starts at Belle Vue on Friday night against Wakefield Trinity. Even games against lowly Wakefield and Castleford don’t skew the average ranking too much for Saints, proving how tough their other games are.

1: Castleford Tigers – 4.285

Fixtures: Hull KR (a), Leeds Rhinos (H), Catalans Dragons (a), Leigh Leopards (a), Wakefield Trinity (H), Wigan Warriors (a), St Helens (a)

The toughest run of all and it comes for the team without a head coach. Barring Catalans Dragons, Castleford play all their games against sides inside the current top six and it’s difficult to see many points at all.
