Liverpool reportedly make a crucial decision over their pursuit of Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi after failing with two transfer bids.

Liverpool have reportedly made a crucial decision over their pursuit of Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.

The Reds have not sat still since lifting the Premier League trophy in Arne Slot‘s first season in charge, having delved into the transfer market to make several additions ahead of the 2025-26 season.

Liverpool have spent over £250m to sign Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Giorgi Mamardashvili and Armin Pecsi

While the Reds have strengthened in a number of positions, they are yet to bolster their central defensive options following Jarell Quansah‘s move to Bayer Leverkusen.

Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate are regarded as Slot’s first-choice central defensive pairing, but Joe Gomez and Rhys Williams are the only other two senior centre-backs in the squad.

Liverpool make Guehi transfer decision

The Reds have been heavily linked with Palace’s Guehi, who has entered the final 12 months of his contract.

According to Foot Mercato, Liverpool have stepped up their interest by making two offers for the England international this summer.

The report claims that the Eagles rejected both proposals, although it is unclear how much the Reds were offering for the defender.

Palace are understood to be demanding €55m (£47.9m) to part ways with Guehi before the transfer window shuts on September 1.

Liverpool are unwilling to meet Palace’s asking price and are now preparing to give up their pursuit of the former Chelsea centre-back.

Could Guehi join another club this summer?

While Liverpool are ready to move onto alternative targets, Guehi could still be given the chance to leave Palace before the transfer market closes for business.

Tottenham Hotspur are understood to be among his admirers, while Newcastle United are still interested after they failed to secure his signature last summer.

Eddie Howe‘s side are preparing to step up their pursuit by making a formal approach for the Palace star.

However, as the days pass by, it is becoming ‘increasingly likely’ that Guehi will remain a part of Oliver Glasner‘s squad for the 2025-26 campaign.

Palace could opt to keep their captain for one more season and accept the risk that he could leave as a free agent next summer.
